I look for creativity in everything and when I find it, it’s inherently fulfilling to me. For me creativity is comprised of intelligence, challenges, inspirations and sheer talent. As you never know where your next spark of brilliance may come from, I find myself insatiably seeking creativity through various mediums and I deeply value this attribute in other people.
I love to read books, magazines, blogs, Facebook statuses, LinkedIn articles and don’t even get me started on how addictive Bathroom Readers are. I watch countless TV shows ranging from mindless drivel to gripping biographies. I especially love shows like Master Chef, Decked Out, Face Off or Project Runway. Not for the so called “drama” but for the process behind their creations.
I find inspiration in Architecture, Art, Landscaping, Movies, Decorating, Photography, Food, Technology, Fashion, Music... anything that makes you take a second look and say, “Wow. I’ve never seen anything like that before!” And yes, if you’ve been wondering Pinterest is my own personal crack.
Now how does this relate to database design and the overtly non-right brain side of technology? (Or for that matter the title?) I specialize in “Efficiency”. A well designed database helps the user to quickly and efficiently track or summarize their information. One cannot have efficiency without innovation and you can’t have innovation without creativity. I think most databases are created in an effort to solve a problem. I derive a great amount of satisfaction from being presented with a challenge by a client and then being able to create a solution for them. Therefore I love what I do.
Technology is simply a tool with which we use our creativity to change the world around us. Hopefully for the better.
